About Us

Marine and Sub-Sea Services is a Madagascar registered Commercial Diving Company operating out of Nosy Be Island in North Western Madagascar.

The company is owned by a former South African Navy and South African Commercial diver Dave Bird.

Marine and Sub-Sea Services offers a wide range of commercial diving services within the marine and oil & gas industry as well as the marine engineering sector. Our experienced team can provide detailed technical reports on every worksite, including video and photographs. We also undertake marine inspections and surveys for major insurance companies and we work closely with all ship classification societies.

Marine and Subsea Services conduct operations and services in the near-shore environment. We have extensive knowledge in the oil and gas industry as well as the marine engineering sector. We further undertake the testing and replacement of SBM oil transfer pipes, mooring and chain inspection as well as the fitment of new mooring systems.

Our divers provide photo or video of all underwater sites and our technical team provides detailed technical reports.

Our experience on the African continent enables us to provide our clients with the best solutions for each project.

Our Team

David Bird

Director of Diving

David started his diving career at the age of 15 working part time as a salvage diver in Port Elizabeth. Shortly thereafter David joined the South African Navy and qualified as a diver receiving training in the operation of a dive chambers, safe handling of underwater explosives and in the use of a wide array of underwater equipment.

After leaving the Navy, David was registered as a South African commercial diver and freelanced, diving on semi-submersible drill platforms such as the Texan owned “Sedco K”. David worked for various companies like South African Diving Services and Cape Diving and Salvage, diving on various other oil platforms, underwater pipelines projects for Government, conducted ship hull inspections, hull cleans and prop polishing as well as general salvage work. David has also spent a considerable amount of time in the offshore alluvial marine diamond mining industry in South Africa, Namibia and Angola.

Franck Randimby

Director of Finance

Franck is an accomplished administrator having worked for large tourism companies and NGO’s in Madagascar. In addition to being responsible for the day-to-day finances and running of the business, Franck is also responsible for all logistic related aspects as well as obtaining any necessary permits that may be required from the relative marine authorities such as APMF.
